Frequently asked questions
About it consulting
When should we hire an IT consultant?
When you're facing a significant IT decision and want an independent view - moving to the cloud, switching MSP, buying a major system, acquiring another business, or planning IT for the next few years. Also when you feel you're paying too much for IT without knowing why.
How is consulting different from managed IT?
Managed IT is ongoing day-to-day support. Consulting is a fixed-scope engagement to answer a specific question or produce a specific plan. Many clients start with a consulting engagement and later choose to move to our managed service - but there's no obligation.
How much does an IT consulting engagement cost?
A focused IT audit and twelve-month roadmap typically runs $6,500 to $15,000 depending on the size of the environment. Vendor and contract reviews are usually $2,500 to $5,000. Every engagement is fixed-scope with a written proposal.
Will you recommend your own services?
Only where they genuinely fit. Our consulting reports are written as if we won't be doing the implementation - because sometimes we won't. That independence is what makes the advice worth paying for.
Do you provide second opinions on other providers' proposals?
Yes. This is one of the most common engagements we do. We review the proposal, ask the questions you didn't know to ask, and give you a plain-English written opinion.
Can you work with our internal IT team?
Yes. Many engagements are done in partnership with an existing internal IT lead who wants an experienced peer to think through decisions with.
